The Victoria-based entrepreneur Andrew Wilkinson is one of the most successful Canadian entrepreneurs of the last few decades.

Andrew is sometimes called ‘the Warren Buffett of Tech’ because he’s a long-term investor in — and an owner of — a cluster of tech companies.

We’re sharing this with you because of what Andrew said on a topic many are interested in: how to spend your hard-earned money well.

The excerpt we’re about to share is from a recent interview Andrew did with Hampton, which is a boutique community/think-tank for founders and chief executive officers.

So, when Hampton asked Andrew about the best thing he ever spent money on, he said:

“The lake house, though, was the best thing I’ve ever spent money on… because it’s not about anything except for family and friends.”

Were you surprised to hear that?

By the way, the host also asked Andrew an interesting follow-up question about his lake house. And we feel that made this story even more relevant to both you and us:

“How far away is your lake house from your main residence?”

Andrew: “45 minutes. And that’s another thing, is people do this stupid thing of buying a house that’s like three hours away or a flight away or whatever. And I think like, yeah, it’s hard to use something that you can’t get to.”

Over to you.

Are you thinking about building a custom lake house at one of the sites around Regina? If you are, why not build it with the custom home builder who’s been listening to — and uncommonly caring about — custom home buyers for 40+ years?
